What is the law in Ohio and neighboring states?
Ohio Laws
- No 24-hour waiting period: In August 2024, a Franklin County Judge blocked Ohio’s 24-hour waiting period. Patients may now access abortion care in one visit. If you have questions, please ask the clinic when you call to make an appointment. They are happy to help you navigate the process.
- Parental consent: Ohio law requires parental consent before a minor can get an abortion. If a minor cannot obtain parental consent they can go through a judicial-bypass process. This process happens in the county court, and must happen in the county in which the minor lives or a county adjacent (next to) the county in which the minor lives.
- Have questions? Contact a clinic near you for more information. Their staff can help walk you through the process.

- Health plans offered in the state’s health exchange under the Affordable Care Act can only cover abortion if the woman’s life is endangered, unless individuals purchase an optional rider at an additional cost.
