Response to bill combining abortion and capital punishment policies
Press Release | January 28, 2025
In response to the discussion of a new bill combining capital punishment and abortion you can attribute the following statement to Abortion Forward Executive Director Kellie Copeland: “This bill is why people don’t trust politicians. It is a wildly insulting and stigmatizing attack on the tens of thousands of patients who have abortions each year in Ohio. There should be an up or down vote on the death penalty, not the dishonest trickery we saw today.
“Ohioans stood up in 2023 and showed their overwhelming support for abortion. Once again, opponents of abortion have shown that they refuse to listen to the will of the people in our state. Abortion is health care, and accessing that health care is protected by the Ohio Constitution. Including any restriction on abortion in state legislation is inappropriate, especially in a bill supposedly focusing on criminal punishment.”
