Response to federal court ruling on abortion medication by mail
Press Release | May 2, 2026
Columbus — In response to the Fifth Circuit ruling blocking access to abortion medication via mail, Abortion Forward Executive Director Kellie Copeland said: “Ohio abortion clinics are open for patients despite the infringement on the right to mail abortion medication to their home. Americans have safely and effectively used Mifepristone to terminate pregnancies since it was first approved a quarter-century ago. The actions by one federal court in Louisiana are both a drastic overreach impacting patients far outside their jurisdiction and an unacceptable blockade against people in need of options. An abortion ban anywhere impacts access everywhere. Patients across the country should not be forced to travel to Ohio for care as this ruling would make some of them do, but our state’s providers will welcome them with open arms.”
