NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio statement on election results
Press Release | November 6, 2018
Columbus — In response to tonight’s election results, NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio Executive Director Kellie Copeland released the following statement:
“The fight’s not over. Just because Mike DeWine prevailed doesn’t mean we’re giving up. Our fight has never been about one election. It has always been about the people who need access to abortion and other reproductive health care. That’s why the fight is not over.
“NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio staff and members will keep the pressure on Ohio’s elected officials by forming pro-choice teams across the state to meet with lawmakers in their districts, putting pressure on them to oppose the anti-choice extremist agenda of Mike DeWine and his cronies. And no matter what happens, we’ll be on the ground across the state in local communities making sure that every person who needs it, has access to abortion care.
“In two debates, we were proud to hear Rich Cordray pledge to veto abortion bans, and directly challenge Mike DeWine on his abysmal record on not only abortion rights, but also equal pay, sexual harassment and assault, and protecting people with pre-existing conditions. We’re proud to have supported Rich and Betty Sutton, and pro-choice candidates up and down the ticket.”
Through door knocks, phone calls, text messages, and social media contacts, NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio contacted 487,312 voters about the importance of this election. We prioritized competitive legislative districts, and communities that depend on local, independent abortion providers for the care they need.
