Ohio court rules in favor of abortion patients
Press Release | February 14, 2025
COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas has ruled against a discriminatory law requiring patients to choose burial or cremation of the embryo or fetus after a procedural abortion. This law was passed to add unnecessary burdens to abortion care, pushing it out of reach for many patients.
Abortion Forward Executive Director Kellie Copeland said: “The people of Ohio have won another victory for reproductive rights and mostly for common sense. This ruling is thanks to the Ohio Reproductive Freedom Amendment.
“This case wasn’t about making sure pregnant people have options. It was about limiting which options exist. It was about discriminating against and shaming patients who choose to have an abortion and the medical professionals who provide abortion care. It just another trick by our state legislature and Governor DeWine to try to put abortion out of reach for individuals across our state, and that places lives at risk. Just passing the bill wasn’t enough for this administration. Now Attorney General Dave Yost is continuing this unconstitutional campaign through the courts. Yost should listen to the people of Ohio who clearly said in 2023 that they are sick and tired of attacks on abortion.”
