Pro-Choice Ohioans Select Cordray/Sutton
Press Release | May 8, 2018
Columbus — In selecting the Cordray/Sutton ticket, Democratic voters in the primary election have nominated pro-choice candidates for governor and lieutenant governor. Rich Cordray will now oppose Republican Mike DeWine, whose anti-abortion views are among the most severe in the nation.
NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio Executive Director Kellie Copeland said: “Our team is focused on one clear mission: to end the emerging reproductive health care crisis in Ohio brought on by the Kasich/DeWine crusade against access to reproductive health care, including safe, legal abortion. That is why we endorsed Rich Cordray and Betty Sutton. They trust Ohioans to make our own reproductive health care decisions. Cordray and Sutton will put an end to the ideologically motivated practice of using state agencies to close abortion clinics, defund family planning providers like Planned Parenthood, and fund fake women’s health centers that lie to pregnant people in search of information. The Cordray administration will pursue policies to combat our state’s alarming maternal and infant mortality rates, and will restore access to contraceptives, health screenings, comprehensive sex education, and abortion care in our communities without judgment or delay.”
NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio endorsed 36 state legislative candidates, plus those running for statewide office. Find the full list here: https://prochoiceohio.org/2018-endorsements/. Our staff and volunteers called 1,423 pro-choice voters in eight targeted state Senate and House Districts. Our digital team launched 408,968 emails. We’ve also worked with our national partner, NARAL Pro-Choice America, which endorses candidates for federal office. They have endorsed Sen. Sherrod Brown for reelection and we will continue to educate Ohio voters about his terrific record of supporting women.
NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio acknowledges that gubernatorial candidates Sen. Joe Schiavoni and Dennis Kucinich have been formerly endorsed by NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio and NARAL Pro-Choice America respectively, and wishes to express our sincere gratitude for their ongoing support for abortion rights.
