Pro-Choice Victories in Ohio Legislative Races
Press Release | May 8, 2018
Columbus — NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio endorsed in 36 state legislative primary races. At this time, we count victories in at least 30 of them. As vote tallies roll in from county boards of election, we see a clear choice to nominate candidates who prioritize protecting reproductive rights.
NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio Kellie Copeland said: “We’re thrilled to see Rep. Teresa Fedor receive the nomination of Toledoans who want to return her to the Ohio Senate. She’s been a terrific champion in a city who has seen their abortion access threatened most severely. We’re proud to support her successful bid tonight.
“In Lakewood, Rep. Nickie Antonio is an amazing champion and Ohio’s first open LGBT state legislator. She speaks in defense of reproductive rights and Ohio health care providers with conviction and pride. We’re honored to support her bid for the Ohio Senate.
“In Cleveland, Sen. Kenny Yuko has stood up for Ohioans seeking reproductive health care, including safe and legal abortion. Sen. Yuko clearly trusts women to make the best decisions for themselves. Cleveland voters will be well served as they return him to the Ohio Senate, and we’re glad to have his back.
“In Cleveland, Sen. Sandra Williams will return to the Ohio Senate as the only Black woman in that legislative body. Ohio’s underserved communities of color have certainly benefitted from her leadership, and we’re very pleased to support her for another four years.
“In the Ohio House, #MenForChoice Rep. Kent Smith and Sen. Mike Skindell won contested races. We are thrilled by the victories of new comers like Juanita Brent, Erica Crawley, Zach Dickerson, Tim Piatt and many others. We’re are energized to begin the hard work necessary to win pro-choice victories in the November 6 General Election.”
