Two years after Dobbs, Abortion is Once Again on the Ballot in Ohio
Press Release | June 24, 2024
COLUMBUS, Ohio — On the two-year anniversary of the Dobbs decision that overturned Roe v. Wade, Abortion Forward Executive Director Kellie Copeland released the following statement:
“Two years after Dobbs, no state has changed more than Ohio. Before the sun set on that day, anti-abortion politicians got a court ruling that allowed the six-week abortion ban to go into effect. For the next 82 days (until another court halted enforcement of the measure), Ohioans faced a health crisis that resulted in people who needed abortion care fleeing the state or continue pregnancies against their will. At their first opportunity, voters secured abortion rights and reproductive freedom by passing the Ohio Reproductive Freedom Amendment.
That was a giant step forward — but getting an abortion in Ohio is still needlessly difficult because of a massive number of laws that block access to abortion. That is why abortion is on the ballot again this year. We must elect federal candidates that will block a national abortion ban, elect justices to the Supreme Court of Ohio who will enforce our Ohio Reproductive Freedom Amendment, and pass the Citizens Not Politicians Amendment that will end gerrymandering in Ohio. Abortion Forward is working with advocates across Ohio to mobilize abortion access voters to turn out in record numbers at the polls.”
