Updated Ohio abortion data released from Ohio Department of Health
Press Release | October 2, 2025
COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Health has released their 2024 Induced Abortions in Ohio report. 21,829 abortions were performed in Ohio last year.
Abortion Forward Executive Director Kellie Copeland said: “For 82 days in 2022, Ohioans were forced to travel out of state for the abortion care they needed. Thankfully those days are behind us, and abortion is protected in the Ohio Constitution. But there is still work to be done in Ohio to ensure that everyone who needs an abortion has the access they need.
“People must be able to plan if, when, and how they start a family, and government should be ensuring they have access to education and resources to make that plan for themselves. Unfortunately, Trump, Congress, anti-abortion organizations, and their friends in the Ohio Legislature continue to do everything they can to impede access to reproductive healthcare.
“Politicians are leaving tens of thousands of Ohioans without access to the healthcare services they need by introducing new unconstitutional restrictions on abortion access, cutting Medicaid funding, and banning essential providers like Planned Parenthood from the Medicaid program.”
In 2010, the Affordable Care Act provided millions of individuals and families with the preventive healthcare they needed. Every day since, Republicans have worked to undermine that progress. On attacks on reproductive health care, Copeland said: “The Trump administration has taken those attacks to a whole new level. Every so-called ‘pro-life’ politician is a total fraud when they fail to protect funding for their constituents’ reproductive healthcare. When we see headlines about health centers like Planned Parenthood closing their doors, we’re also seeing people lose their chosen healthcare provider. Ohioans need and deserve better.”
The report also showed that 3,133 individuals traveled to Ohio from another state to get the abortion care they needed in 2024. Copeland continued: “I am glad that those people could come to Ohio for the care they needed, but they should have been able to get the care much closer to home. No one should be forced to cross state lines for health care.”
