US Supreme Court compromised, Ohio voters choose new legislature
Press Release | October 26, 2020
Cleveland — With the US Senate poised to vote on the nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett, NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio Executive Director Kellie Copeland released the following statement:
“Donald Trump has teamed up with Mitch McConnell and Republicans in the US Senate to undermine the integrity and faith in our judicial branch. Today’s vote on a US Supreme Court vacancy should be postponed until after Inauguration Day. The will of the American people must prevail. There is so much at stake with this vacancy, everything from the basic human right to abortion and bodily autonomy, to civil rights, and voting rights. Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s record shows that she is so extreme that she doesn’t even think that health insurance coverage should include contraception. In every way, she is the wrong choice for the US Supreme Court.
“In addition to the presidential election, Ohio voters have two other critical choices to make this election. Who we send to the Supreme Court of Ohio and the Ohio Statehouse is more significant than ever. Being able to have an abortion or continue a pregnancy is a fundamental human right. You, and only you, should be able to make that decision about your body and your future. Not Mike DeWine, Rob Portman, Donald Trump, or Amy Coney Barrett. We must elect people to the White House, the Statehouse and the courthouse who agree.”
